Let's Teach You Something [PrEP Edition]

You might have noticed in some of our previous posts that we mentioned a HIV prevention drug which was PrEP.

Here is a little information on what this drug is:

PrEP stands for Pre Exposure Prophylaxis. It is a way for an HIV negative person to use HIV drugs to protect against catching HIV. Oral PrEP uses two HIV drugs in one pill. These are usually tenofovir disoproxil (TD, TDF) and emtricitabine.

In lame terms PrEP can stop HIV from taking hold and spreading throughout your body, which sound pretty cool to us, and no we're not saying go around having unprotected activities just handing you ways to keep yourself safe and healthy.

It's a good way to ensure that you keep yourself safe no matter what happens but you also need to mix it with other methods such as condoms, with the combination you have all the confidence that you are keeping yourself well maintained.

Term Definition :

Tenofovir disoproxil - is an antiviral drug that is approved for the treatment of HIV infection. It is able to reduce the amount of HIV in the blood, help prevent or reverse damage to the immune system and reduce the risk of AIDS-related illnesses

Emtricitabine - is an antiviral drug that reduces the amount of HIV in the body. Anti-HIV drugs such as emtricitabine slow down or prevent damage to the immune system
