On that note, Pfizer-BioNech Phase III Covid-19 trials have effectively started in South Africa. There is currently an participant enrolment in the clinical trial. The programme is set to have about 44, 000 participants globally, including those who have chronic, stable HIV etc.
There are four sites across Gauteng, Limpopo and the Western Cape with nearly 800 subjects that will be assessed on the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.
The trial was granted regulatory approval by the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (Sahpra). We will keep giving you the updates as this trial commences.
